Welcome to our new PhD student Md Sarwar Hosen, who will joining in Summer 2026. Sarwar will be working on hollow-core fiber sensors and hollow-core fiber modeling and characterization.

Welcome to our new MSC student Daniel Garcia Arana. Daniel will be working on hollow-core fiber sensors and optimization of hollow-core fibers.

We are extremely happy to share that our News & Views article on the recent “Hollow-core fiber breakthrough” has been published in Nature Photonics and now available online. The new hollow-core fibres from Microsoft and ORC, Southampton break a 40-year limit on light transmission.

Dr. Habib has been invited workshop presenter in ‘Anti-Resonant Hollow Core Fiber: The Hype, The Hope, The Headaches’ at OFC 2026, which is scheduled from 15-19 March at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, California, USA. OFC workshops provide an opportunity for attendees to interact informally on particularly compelling technological issues.

Dr. Habib has been awarded NASA Research Initiation Award (RIA) to support cutting-edge research on next-generation optical fibers and sensors.

Dr. Habib has been invited to give a talk at the University of Miami Physics Colloquium on Hollow-core Fibers: Physics, Applications, and Beyond.

Welcome to our new MSC student James Annor. James will be working on hollow-core fiber sensors.

Dr. Habib has been awarded funding from the Relativity Networks Inc. for the development of ultra-low loss hollow-core fibers.

Dr. Habib has been awarded Southeastern Center for Electrical Engineering Education (SCEEE) for the development of energy-efficient sensors.
Dr. Habib has been invited to give a talk at the International conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, BUET, 2024

Dr. Habib has been included Photonics100 2024 list for “The development of ultra-low loss hollow-core fibers and new light source designs”.

Dr. Habib joins as IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology Associate Editor.
Our work on the delivery of a record 2.2 kW laser power with an input spectral linewidth of 86 GHz, centered at 1080 nm is among the September, 2023 top downloads in Optica! Congratulations team!
Dr. Habib and colleagues have been awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Treasury under the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds for broadband feasibility study.
